Photo Competitions

Every year several TV, News and other institutions run photo competitions open to anyone in Ireland (or  Ireland  the UK and ). Below are some of the competitons and showcasing opportunities that are open to our members at the moment.

  1. The Irish times runs an ongoing competition where every two weeks  two photos are selected (and rewarded) for the final round of the competition. People are free to enter as many photographs as they like and have 26 separate chances to progress to the final round. Prizes for the final round are €1,500 worth of equipment from Birmingham Cameras for first place and €500 worth for two runners up.
  2. The RTE weather photo competition is a seasonal competition. Autumn entries are now closed but get your winter shots ready. Remember your photo could end up on TV.
  3. The Irish Photographic Federation runs competitions on a regular basis so check in with their website to see whats on.
  4. The Cork International Salon of Photography is open to all members and provides an excellent opportunity to compete with photographers from Ireland and abroad in several categories (Colour, Monochrome, Travel, Nature, Landscape and Creative). Rules for entry are on the site.
  5. The Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland’s themed photo competition runs until the end of the year. This years theme is Urban Green infrastructure. Prizes are modest but its a great chance to test your skills.
  6. The Geological Survey of Ireland are running a themed competition which closes on the 17th October 2014.
  7. The Ireland AM Camera Club runs themed national competitions on a regular basis with the chance to have your photo seen on TV.
  8. The National History Museum (UK) runs the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition every year with several categories open to photographers of all levels. Check out the galleries on their site for a preview of how good the competition is. The 2015 entry is open from the 5th January 2015.
